Korean investors turn to European debt

More than 50% of the delegates attending ANREV’s Korea conference want to increase their real estate investments, with a majority favouring value-add and debt investments.

More than half of the Korean investors surveyed at a conference organised by the Asian Association for Investors in Non-listed Real Estate Vehicles (ANREV) have chosen Europe as their preferred investment destination in 2018.

Majority of the Korean investors have said they plan to pursue value-add and debt investments in 2018, marking a shift in risk appetite from last year when a majority of investors were more interested in a core strategy.

Among the 170 Korean institutional investors and global real estate industry experts that attended ANREV’s conference in Seoul last week, more than 37 percent expect to invest in value-add investments and 29 percent in debt deals this year, compared to 22 percent who favoured core and core-plus investments. This is despite the fact that interest rate and pricing risk continue to be a key concern for the conference attendees.
