An initiative announced this week aims to bring the worlds of crowdfunding and institutional real estate debt fund management closer together.
The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has indicated that it will tighten up regulation of the burgeoning crowdfunding industry, of which real estate lending is an increasing sub-sector.
The real estate crowdfunding platform Sharestates has surpassed $1.3 billion in capital commitments after securing up to $500 million each from a private equity fund and a private real estate fund.
Paul Deitch, a former managing director at investment firm Oaktree Capital Management, has joined commercial real estate debt platform Patch of Land as CEO.
The success of Fundrise -- and debt crowdfunding in general -- relies not on iconic buildings, but rather in areas that have been largely “ignored” by mainstream lenders, said company co-founder and president Daniel Miller this week at the National Association of Real Estate Editors (NAREE) annual conference, held at the InterContinental Miami.
