US private equity firm Colony Capital has parted company with its head of European debt strategies, Dilip Awtani.
The London-based managing director was responsible for loan purchases and originations, as well as structured product investments, in Europe.
He joined the firm from GE Capital in 2009. The deal he is remembered for was Colony’s acquisition of a €370m non-performing loan portfolio for just over €65m in August 2011, from German banks Eurohypo, Helaba, Berlin Hyp and Archon Capital Bank.
Colony’s activity in Europe’s debt arena has been sparse since then. Lone Star recently beat Colony to secure Lloyds’ £900m Project Royal loan portfolio.
Colony has just hired Thibault Chauvin to start raising capital to originate European senior debt. Chauvin, who joined from Credit Foncier, has had roles at four other banks and a brief period at CBRE Real Estate Finance.
